Some of the most important moments we have experienced at Social Media during 2010, are described as follow:

  • Haiti earthquake in January. Through social media the people there provide the world with news and information about the disaster.
  • The movie “The Social Network” was based on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and the beginnings of the social networking service. On December, Facebook’s CEO was named “Person of the Year” by Time magazine.
  • Facebook launches places with geolocation services.
  • Google launches Google TV and Google wave.
  • Yahoo planned to shut down the social bookmarking site Delicious.
  • Digg.com, Twitter and MySpace redesigned their websites, while Facebook redesigned users’ profiles.
  • The social micropayment platform Flattr is launched.
  • Toyota with hip hop Swagger Wagon campaign gets 7.840.530 views on YouTube.
  • Old Spice shows viral success with the campaign of the “Old Spice Guy”.
  • Apple launches its own social network called Ping.
  • The network Diaspora is launched for the public in alpha version.
